Why You Should Train Your Core

ree

Why is core strength & stability important?

Let’s start with what the core entails. The core is the deeper muscles of your abdomen, including the lower back, hips, and pelvis. You can have a strong core without having abs and the opposite is also true.

The core is where most of your movement is generated. It helps stabilize and control movement. It helps with stabilizing the spine, twisting side to side, bending forward and backwards, and lifting things.

Core strength and stabilization is important for everyday movements. If you have a weak core, then you are more prone to fatigue, have less endurance, and are at a higher risk of injury. You are limited in what you are able to do.

Core stabilization helps with better posture, lower probability of injury, your body is more balanced and you can move more easily.

Core stabilization is important for everyone.

How do you train your core?

You want to train for both stabilization and strength.

Core work focuses on breathwork, stability, and coordinated movement.

Focusing on intentional movement.

You want to mimic the movements that the core facilitates (listed above).

Do not do sit ups or crunches.

Here are a few exercises to try out:

Bear Hold (strength)

Core rotation (stabilization & strength)

Supine toe taps (stabilization)

Bird-Dog (stabilization)

Shoulder taps (strength)

Having core strength needs to be part of a fitness program to be well rounded and help you reach your goals, as well as help you improve your quality of life.
